I can't honestly describe the devastation I felt when I was diagnosed with Vocal Chord Paralysis. All i wanted to do was sing and my body was telling me it couldn't. I tried often to push it but it would make no difference. 6 years on and only now I feel the anguish that I used to experience starting to subside.
I no longer work myself into a frenzy of panic just before a gig. No longer practice until i have no voice left to sing with when I need it.
I just learnt to 'CALM DOWN'!!!
I know it's hard advice to take when all you want is a solution which will allow you to sing but after being in the same situation, for many years I can hand on heart say that is the first thing that you need to do!
You see the body is all connected. The stress that is taking place in your throat is probably having an impact somewhere else - like your digestion, or your hormones or thyroid. The body only has a limited resource to sort itself out with so adding more stress and anxiety to the mix is just weakening your body's ability to do it job well.
Here are some tips on how to improve your voice after vocal damage, they certainly helped me in my time of need.
