Thrifted Hall Table & How I styled It

My local Katherine House Charity shop is just a few miles from where I live so I take every opportunity to pop in and see what’s on offer. Mostly I get toys for my toddler grandson when he visits but occasionally I see a piece of furniture that would fit perfectly in my home.

For just £30 I found a Console table that would go well in my hallway but after getting it home, it was clear the bright orange stain made it look dated so with nothing to lose I decided to give it an upcycle.

The varnish didn't look that thick but I was getting through sanding discs quickly!

Getting it back to bare wood was worth it as this gave me a perfect surface to add a white wash and brighten the table even further.

It was then I realised I was all out of polyurethane varnish so after seeing it in a few TikTok videos I decided to try something called Hard Wax Oil.

I was expecting this to be greasy but this was more like a very watery varnish. It painted on like milk but hardened to become a varnish.

After the first coat I caught on that layers have to be really thin as it didn’t soak in that much. But as the layers are built up it becomes a waterproof flawless finish. Once I got the hang of it, it was the most satisfying product to use.

Here's the table in our hallway looking just how I imagined it.

I've styled it with a Vase £9.99 from The Range. Faux hydrangeas and an egg timer from TK Maxx. Sea Salt and Sandlewood Candle from Jaq Candles. Baskets £12 each from Temu and Woven Tray and Throw also thrifted from Katherine House Charity Shop.

I hope you liked my furniture flip. Let me know what you would like to see next.

Until next time
